The finished side of the living room
Living room accent wall
Dungarvan is a lovely little seaside town, and I wanted our living room accent wall to be a nod to the location by finding that beautiful blue-green colour that you can see in the ocean waves. This one is Fleetwood Designer Blue and I love it so much, it’s so calm and makes this room really cosy, and goes so well with the dusty pink curtains.
Floor lamp
I had been dreaming of the Vetro floor lamp from Made.com for nearly a year before I finally bought it. I’m normally quite spontaneous, but having a very limited budget (I’m out of work with no events going ahead this year, thanks to the stupid pandemic) has been a bit of a blessing in a weird kind of way; I have to take my time, which definitely helps in figuring out if I’m really settled on the particular item. And this lamp surely was worth the wait, it is SO COOL. It’s my absolutely favourite piece in this room. It also comes in gold, silver, peacock and pink, and deciding on colour wasn’t the easiest task - I was torn between gold, peacock and black. Black was a good choice though, I LOVE it. This floor lamp is as functional as it is beautiful. It emits really soft yet quite bright light, perfect for comfortable reading.
Coffee table
The coffee table was a temporary buy from Amazon until I decide on the real deal. It’s actually a lovely table, simple and pretty, and I do like it, but I still want to change it. The sofa, the armchair and the coffee table all have the same style legs, and that’s too uniformed looking for my taste. Working in harmony is very different from matching too much - when everything is uniformed, it can start looking boring, and that’s how I feel about those 12 same style legs in my livingroom.
The living room is small, and visually light furniture helps to make small spaces feel bigger and brighter. I am planning to replace the current coffee table with either this amazing tinted glass table from Made.com, or this clear glass table from Amazon. Doesn’t get more visually light than transparent, right?
Layering rugs
The rugs where supposed to be a temporary low budget solution, but I’m actually really happy with the look and I’m not planning on changing it any time soon. The large grey rug is from IKEA, and it was only €55, and the purple rug was another bargain buy from Wayfair. I got the colourful rug in a smaller size because I wasn’t sure if I will like such a colour splash here, but I totally love it. I got the inspiration for the layered look somewhere on Pinterest, and it’s actually such a good idea - I imagine having proper handmade luxurious wool rugs in my home at some point, and layering them not only looks cool, but it also makes it a little more affordable - put the cheap one underneath and pop the real deal on top, et voila (I don’t speak French, and I don’t even have this expression in my vocabulary, but for some reason “et voila” seemed like the right thing to say here)!
Plant stand
The large black plant stand is another piece I am totally in love with. I got it in Wink and Elbow, my new favourite local shop. My monstera loves the stand as much as I do!
The two smaller plant stands are from Sostrene Grene, and the large basket for my dracaena is from Homesense.
Living room velvet accents
Velvet is such a luxurious material and adding these accents has made a visible difference to the room. I love how the two velvet cushions discreetly just bring the colour scheme together and add vibrant and fun accents to this space. I am planning to add more velvet cushions, slowly and thoughtfully - it’s such an easy way to add more personality to a room.
The velvet poof is from Trouva, and the dusty pink curtains are from IKEA. The velvet cushions are from Homesense, find similar here and here.
The sofa and the armchair
The sofa is from EZ Living and it’s super comfy, the fabric so gracefully hides all the stains, but if I had a second chance, this green velvet sofa from Made.com would be my dream pick. Some day.
The grey armchair is quite comfy and doesn’t take up space visually, which is super important when picking furniture for small spaces. Find similar here. Though again, I picked both furniture pieces as neutral essentials before I started exploring textures and colours, so I would pick the same chair in pink instead, and I also have this stunning green velvet chair on my wish list, for the other end of the sofa.
The unfinished side of the living room
The other side of the living room is unfinished. There’s a stove and two alcoves that are currently filled with a TV sitting on piles of books. The books are patiently awaiting their forever home in beautiful solid timber shelves that currently only exist in my head (and on some amazing inspo photos on Pinterest).
