5 AMAZING DINING CHAIRS
I’ve been looking at A LOT of chairs to go with a rectangular oak dining table (see the post about tables here). Like, A LOT. It’s kind of hard to explain the passion I have for chairs, but it definitely stems from working as an event designer. The dining chairs change the look of the entire dinner set up so much, and I always enjoy finding the perfect rentals so much. And an event is only a once-off thing (well, not ONLY. I take that back. Wedding photos will be looked at for forever and pretty set-up is super important), so I am taking picking a proper dining chair pretty seriously.
I liked the idea of tactile velvet chairs, but having tried out the grey fabric chairs we currently have, I’ve figured that a fabric chair for a house that isn’t a strictly grown-up only, is a big no-no. It’s not even about The Child leaving a couple of stains, it’s mainly The Cat who’s decided that climbing them is most fun of her life, and who’s done the most damage. The stains and the pulled out threads everywhere, yikes.
Our kitchen/dining area is on the smaller side, and the rectangular table will take a good bit of room, so I’ve been looking for chairs that are visually light. I’ve been loving the look of gold wire chairs and transparent chairs, and this is a list of my very favourite 5 dining chairs.
1. The SM05 wire chair was originally designed 60 years ago, and it still is super cool this day. How amazing is that? Fashion changes and like anything else, furniture is either in or out of it, but there are pieces that never tire. This chair is such a classic and the real deal, and way out of my price range, but still on my list, one can dream, right?
2. Marvel Dining Chair from Made.com. I think this gold wire chair might be the prettiest chair I’ve ever seen. It’s so simple, elegant, timeless and so light-looking. It also comes in copper and black, but gold is my colour of choice for sure - it would work so well with the gold finishes we have in the kitchen (tap and handles), and if we had an oak dining table, it would create such a lovely juxtaposition of materials. LOVE.
3. Black wire chair from Woodesign.ie. So, I’m pretty set on gold, but black would actually work just as well. This chair looks really cool and I would take it any time.
So yeah, love for the wire chairs is real. But, I also really REALLY like the transparent ghost chairs. Hard to imagine being visually lighter than transparent, right?
4. THE REAL DEAL. I’ve been a fan of Philippe Stark forever and ever, and I used the Louis Ghost chairs at my wedding (which was in a barn and the chairs was the thing that added a classic and elegant feel to otherwise too rustic setting).
5. The real deal is so expensive though, and this Philippe Stark Style Ghost Victoria chair would work just as nicely.
So yeah, pretty thorn between the ghost and the wire chairs. We have white floors and the wire chair might look better with that, but then again, I’ve been thinking of getting a rug for underneath the dinner table so the ghost chair would look SO GOOD with that.
